From Insects | Bio-resin

In this short video Marlène Huissoud, product designer and material researcher, explains about her new product – bio-resign which is extracted straight from the beehives. Originally extracted from trees this material has different properties depending on the type of tree it’s been extracted from and used as seal for the honey frames. She explores the material from rubber trees. Once the honey is collected the It’s surrface is easily manipulated and the finish of the texture can be easily crafted.

The second material comes from the different fibre layers of the cocoon, which has in it’s structure super strong glue that fused all the fibres together. Covered with bio-resin it becomes very strong leather-like material which has unique aesthetic properties.
